> Ascending the hall, he struck his staff and said: "This is the realm of Ruiyan." Striking it again, he said: "Deep, firm, secluded, and far: no one can reach it." Striking it again, he said: "Having reached here, what should be done? Bah! The old monk smilingly points to where the apes cry; / There are still sacred traces higher above." Raising: "A monk asked an ancient master, 'In the deep mountains and rocky crags, is there still the Buddha Dharma or not?' The ancient master said, 'Big stones are big; small ones are small.' Verse: / Questioned about the deep mountains and rocky crags, / 'Big stones, small stones' came the reply. / The crag collapses, the rock bursts and shatters, / Empty space clamors noisily."
