Ascending the hall: "When thoughts fly in confusion, how can you set your hands to them? Zhaozhou's 'A dog has no Buddha-nature' is just this iron broom of the word 'Wu'. Where you sweep, the confusion flies all the more; where the confusion flies thick, sweep it. The more you sweep, the more it scatters; where it cannot be swept, risk your life and sweep! Day and night erect your backbone, with heroic courage do not let it slump! Suddenly you sweep open great emptiness, and myriad distinctions and thousands of differences are all thoroughly opened up."
