Minor convocation for releasing the summer retreat:
“Slandering the Buddha, slandering the Dharma, not entering the tally of the assembly, falling into the three evil paths—under the gate of Jingci, what kind of mark does this display? Do you understand? The ninety-day tally is closed; today you are let go. Three thousand donkeys, eight hundred horses, playing flutes and beating drums, singing songs and quickening the beat, so that the clear breeze dare not be clear, and the white clouds dare not be white. Passing right through Gautama’s single move—even so, when meeting people, be strictly careful not to mistakenly quote it. Bah! Chaofu waters his oxen, and Xuyou washes his ears.”
