> The Pointer says:
> The sword that kills and the sword that brings life were the customs of high antiquity, and are also the pivotal essentials of the present day. If one speaks of killing, not a hair is harmed; if one speaks of giving life, body and life are lost. Therefore it is said: "The transcendent path is not transmitted by the thousand sages; students wear out their bodies like monkeys grasping at shadows." Tell me, since it is not transmitted, why then are there so many entangling gong'an? Those with the eye, try to say.
