> "Water sprinkled does not wet it; wind blowing does not penetrate it. A tiger walking, a dragon moving; ghosts wail, spirits weep"—there is nowhere for you to peck or bite. These four lines praise Zhaozhou's answering words as greatly resembling a galloping dragon and a rushing tiger. This monk could only get a whole scene of shame and disgrace. Not only this monk—it even caused ghosts to wail and spirits to weep, just like the grass bending when the wind blows. As for the final two lines, they can be called an only son directly attaining it: "Whose head is three feet long, who knows? Facing each other without words, standing on a single foot." Have you not seen a monk ask an ancient worthy: "What is the Buddha?" The ancient worthy said: "A head three feet long, a neck two inches long." Xuedou cited and used it; I wonder, do you people still recognize it? This mountain monk does not recognize it either. Xuedou at once completely depicted Zhaozhou; he truly is within it! You people must look closely with your eyes fixed.
