> \[85\] Case: A monk arrived at the place of the hermitage master of Tongfeng and asked, "If you suddenly met a tiger here, what then?" (An adept shadow-player. In the grass thicket, there is half a one or one.) The hermitage master made the sound of a tiger. (Turning an error to advantage; nevertheless he has fangs and claws. Dying together and living together; taking up words, one must comprehend the source.) The monk made a posture of fear. (Two mud-ball manipulators. Acting according to the dynamic; it resembles it, to be sure, but right it is not yet.) The hermitage master chuckled with loud laughter. (Somewhat better. There is a knife in the laugh; he can also release and can also gather.) The monk said, "This old thief!" (One must see through it too. Defeated! Both of them are let go.) The hermitage master said, "What can you do about this old monk?" (A slap across the ears! Pity he let it go. Adding another layer of frost on top of snow.) The monk desisted. (To desist like this—neither has finished. Heavens, heavens!) Xuedou said, "To be sure, they are two wicked thieves; they only understand covering their ears to steal the bell." (The words are still in the ears; they suffer Xuedou's examination. Tell me, at that time what should they have done to avoid his examination? The patch-robed monks of the world cannot reach it.)
