> "How could he understand how to speak like that? (Pulling out the collarbone in the dark.) / At the fifth watch, the cock crows; the home forest dawns. (The golden crow rises in the east.) / How could he be willing to speak like that? (Sitting on the tongue in the light.) / The thousand-year crane grows old with the clouded pines. (The jade rabbit sinks in the west.) / The precious mirror, limpid and bright, tests the partial and absolute; (The crucial point when matters are exhausted.) / The jade loom pivots, observing their simultaneous arrival. (Interchanging light and darkness.) / The sectarian style is greatly roused—rules and steps continuous; (The command of the Western Heavens is strict.) / Father and son transform and penetrate—voice and light resound and shine." (Only seeing beyond the teacher makes one worthy of transmission.)
