> Case: A monk asked Qianfeng, "'Bhagavāns of the ten directions have one road to the gate of nirvāṇa.' I wonder: where is the head of the road?" (A fast horse is not as good as a slow ditch.) Qianfeng drew a line with his staff and said, "Here" (believe only half of it). The monk raised this and asked Yunmen (when in doubt, seek another interview). Yunmen said, "The fan leaps up to the Trāyastriṃśa Heaven and pokes Śakra's nostril (beggar's talk). Strike the carp of the Eastern Sea a single blow, and the rain pours down as from a basin. Do you understand? Do you understand?" (explaining like this is even harder to comprehend).
