> Wumen said: The yellow-faced Gautama acted as if nobody were around, forcing the respectable into servitude, hanging a sheep's head to sell dog meat. One would think: how extraordinary is that! Just suppose that at that time the whole assembly had laughed: how would the treasury of the true Dharma eye have been transmitted? Or suppose that Kāśyapa had not smiled: how would the treasury of the true Dharma eye have been transmitted? If you say the treasury of the true Dharma eye has a transmission, the yellow-faced old fellow was deceiving the common folk. If you say there is no transmission, why did he approve only Kāśyapa?
