> A monk asked: 'What is snatching away both person and environment?' The Master said: 'Bing and Fen cut off communication, dwelling isolated in one quarter.' (Dahui said: 'Here you have the very face of snatching away both person and environment.' He also said: 'When I first read the Chan records of the various masters, seeing the words "Bing and Fen's Ji Xin", I had deep doubts about it. Although I questioned various elders, they were all vague and did not distinguish it. Once I read Linji's sayings, I then knew the two characters "cut off communication" \[juexin\]: they are simply the names of the two prefectures Bing and Fen. A monk asked about snatching away both person and environment, and he answered: "dwelling isolated in one quarter" \[duchu yifang\]. Its meaning was brightly clear; only then did I realise that the collections of the various masters all suffered from scribal errors.')
