> “What is the phrase that settles heaven and earth?” Fenyang said: “Non-glutinous rice grows in Uttarakuru; those who eat it have neither anger nor joy (also written: ‘neither greed nor anger’).” Kong said: “The scriptures arrived at White Horse Temple; monks reached the year of Chiwu.” Zong said: “In the human realm and the heavens, it is the same spring.” Yuan said: “Heaven is high, the sea is wide.” He then said: “I use these four phrases to test patch-robed monks throughout the world.” (Dayu said: “Considering it carefully, using these four phrases to test patch-robed monks throughout the world—he was instead seen through by patch-robed monks throughout the world.” Dahui said: “Do you all want to recognise Dayu? ‘For three years not altering from the father's way may indeed be called filial.’”)
