> The master said to Yangshan: 'I take mirror wisdom as the essential tenet, from which emerge three kinds of arising: namely, arising of conceptualization, arising of forms, and arising of the influx. The Śūraṅgama-sūtra says: "Conceptualizations and forms are dust; consciousness and passion are defilement. When both are far removed, then your Dharma eye will immediately be clear and bright. How could you not achieve supreme perception?" Arising of conceptualization is the thinking mind being disorderly. Arising of forms is the thought-of realm being clearly manifest. Subtle influxes are both dust and defilement. If they can be completely purified, only then is liberation attained.'
