> "When deluded, the Buddha is a sentient being; / when awakened, the sentient being is a Buddha. / When foolish, the Buddha is a sentient being; / with wisdom, the sentient being is a Buddha. / When the mind is crooked, the Buddha is a sentient being; / when impartial, the sentient being is a Buddha. / Throughout a lifetime, if the mind is crooked, / the Buddha is within sentient beings. / In a single thought, if awakened and impartial, / the sentient being is oneself a Buddha. / Our minds themselves possess a Buddha; / one's own Buddha is the true Buddha. / If one lacks the Buddha-mind within oneself, / toward what place will one seek the Buddha?"
