宗鏡錄 36.58

- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [36.58](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2016.36.58)

答曰。生滅者。生滅心也。聖人無心。生滅焉起。然非無心。但無心心耳。又非不應。但是不應應耳。是以應。會則。信若四時之質。直。以虛無為體。斯不可得而生。不可得而滅也。

> The answer is: What arises and ceases is the mind of arising and ceasing. The sage is without mind; whence could arising and ceasing arise? Yet it is not that he is without mind; he is merely without a mind that minds. Nor is it that he does not respond; he merely responds without a response that responds. Therefore, as for responsive meeting, its trustworthiness is like the substance of the four seasons; straightforwardly taking vacuous non-existence as substance, it cannot be made to arise and cannot be made to cease.
