> Answer: Dharmapāla generally takes both actual manifestations and seeds to be the faculties. As this is true of the faculties, so it is of the objects. The Yogācārabhūmiśāstra also states: "They all take the two dharmas of active manifestation and seeds to be the faculties of the eyes and so forth." Because at the time of original perfuming, the mind transformed resembling form, it receives its name from the time of perfuming. Because it is pure form derived from the four great elements, in relation to the resultant consciousness that is produced, active manifestation is provisionally designated as a functional capacity; in reality, it is solely manifest form. That "functional capacity" means the production of consciousness is accepted in common by both the Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna.
