> Answer: An ancient commentary states: 'It is cognized only by the manas\[-vijñāna\]. This means that the single dharma of time is nominal. The first five and the eighth are all unable to cognize it. The seventh, moreover, constantly cognizes the inner eighth's darśanabhāga as the self, and is furthermore devoid of discrimination; therefore, only the sixth can cognize it. Furthermore, among the four kinds of manovijñāna, only the clear-perceiving manovijñāna cannot cognize it, because time is nominal; that is, in absorption, in dreams, and as solitary dispersed \[thought\]—these three can all cognize it. In terms of the three objects, it is a solitary shadow object.'
