> Answer: It is like water and milk mixed in one place: their substance has no distinction, yet when the king of geese drinks it, he takes only the milk and not the water. At first glance one would say water and milk are one, but once drunk one knows they are distinct. Again, it is like the light of many lamps sharing one room: their colors cannot be distinguished, yet if we consider the substance of the light, they are originally distinct. The self-enjoyment bodies, though united in one place, are originally distinct each by each, and each enjoys the Dharma-joy for itself, for each fully possesses the eight consciousnesses. Therefore they can mutually pervade one another; they are not an identical, undifferentiated single substance. Neither identical nor distinct—thus may the Buddha's body be discerned.
