> Venerable Taiyuan said: "Whoever wishes to resolve to enter the Way must first recognize their own original mind. If one does not recognize one's own original mind, one is like a dog chasing a clod of earth, not a lion king. Good friends, directly pointing to the mind means that your speech right now is your mind; your actions and conduct—who else could it be? Apart from this, there is no other mind. If one says there is another, it is like Yajñadatta searching for his head. A sūtra says: 'Purifying the mind of faith instantly generates the real mark.' Another sūtra says: 'Non-reliance is the mother of the Buddhas; Buddhas are born from no place.'"
