> The monk Shitou said: The substance of your mind is free from annihilation and permanence; its nature is neither defiled nor pure. Serene and consummate, it is equal in ordinary beings and sages, and its applications and functions are boundless. The three realms and six destinies are manifestations of your own mind alone. Do the moon in the water or the image in the mirror have arising and ceasing? If you can know this, nothing will be lacking. The reason all sages descended spiritually and set down models, speaking extensively in fleeting words, was simply to reveal that the dharmakāya is fundamentally quiescent, causing you to return to the root.
