> The Mahāyānābhidharmasamuccayavyākhyā states: "In accordance with teachings such as the sūtras, through proper mental application, one gives rise to samādhi. Relying on the concentrated mind, one reflects on the image known within concentration. Contemplating that this image is not different from the concentrated mind, relying on this image, one relinquishes the notion of external objects, and with concentration alone observes the image of one's own notions. At that time, because the bodhisattva clearly knows that all phenomena are only one's own mind, he internally abides in his mind and knows that all kinds of apprehended objects are completely nonexistent. Because the apprehended does not exist, all apprehending \[subjects\] are also not real. Therefore, he next clearly knows that the apprehending \[subject\] does not exist. Next, he further internally relinquishes the two kinds of intrinsic nature obtained and realizes non-attainment. In accordance with this principle, the Buddha, the Bhagavān, wonderfully and skillfully proclaimed in verse: / 'The bodhisattva relies on tranquil concentration / and contemplates the images manifested by the mind. / Relinquishing the notions of external dust-objects, / with concentration alone he contemplates his own notions. / Thus internally settling the mind, / he knows that the apprehended does not exist. / Next he contemplates the emptiness of the apprehending \[subject\], / and later touches the non-attainment of both.' / 'Relying' means the transformation of the basis: relinquishing all coarse heaviness and obtaining the purified transformation of the basis." Therefore, a verse of the Dvādaśanikāyaśāstra states: / "Phenomena produced from conditions / are thereby without intrinsic nature. / If they are without intrinsic nature, / how can there be these phenomena?" / Explanation: Therefore we know that the ten thousand phenomena are produced from the mind and are all without intrinsic nature. When the supporting mind is already empty, how could the supported phenomena exist?
