Now, a single thought-moment of an ignorant mind stirs the ocean of tathatā, constituting the twelve links of dependent origination (dvādaśāṅgapratītyasamutpāda) and serving as the root source of life and death. If one understands it, it becomes the waves upon the ocean of the Buddha's wisdom; if one is blind to it, it acts as the whirlpools in the river of life and death. How does it become the Buddha's wisdom? How does it become life and death?
