The Mahāyānāvatāra states: "If one is separated from sentient beings, then there is no one who attains the path to bodhi. From the realm of sentient beings, the bodhi of all buddhas is brought forth. As stated in a verse by the Venerable Nāgārjuna: / 'It does not exist from empty space, / nor is it produced from the seed of the earth; / but from within the kleśas, / one realizes and accomplishes bodhi.' / Therefore we know that realizing the path from the mind does not depend on other conditions; it can accomplish the spontaneous wisdom that has no teacher."
