> "Or raising and honoring precious stūpas, casting and pouring great bells: even if as small as a thumb, heavenly retribution is generated; or if struck just once, the suffering of the dark realms ceases. The Anuttarāśraya Sūtra says: 'The Buddha told Ānanda: "Just like the dwelling place in Śakra's heavenly palace, there is a great flying pavilion named Victorious Palace, with various jewel ornaments numbering eighty-four thousand each. If a faithful man or woman were to construct such Victorious Jewel Palaces, a hundred thousand koṭis of them, and give them as gifts to the saṅgha of the four directions; and if there is another person who, after the Tathāgata's parinirvāṇa, takes a śarīra the size of a mustard seed, builds a stūpa the size of an āmalaka fruit, erects a spire the size of a needle, dew-receptacle plates the size of a jujube leaf, and makes a buddha image the size of a barley grain—this merit surpasses that previously described: one hundred parts cannot equal one part, nor a thousand, ten thousand, or a koṭi of parts, down to an asaṃkhyeya of parts, cannot equal one part. Why is this? Because of the Tathāgata's immeasurable merit."' The Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra says: 'Properly guard the property of the Buddha and the saṅgha; plaster and sweep the grounds of the Buddha and the saṅgha; build a stūpa the size of a thumb, always generating a joyful mind—one will also be born in the Immovable Land.' This means the Pure Land is ever-adorned and not shaken by the three calamities.
