> "Or they may forget their own bodies for the sake of the Dharma, prohibit and eliminate heterodox teachers, erect the banner of the true Dharma, and sever the snares of Māra. They shine the sun of wisdom in the dark room of ignorance, and cast the shade of compassionate clouds over the dense forest of afflictions. They cause those who believe in heterodoxy to head towards the gates of the three liberations, and lead those who cling to erroneous views to tear apart the net of the eight inversions. Or they bring about the great enterprises of others and help arouse bodhi, acting as an empowering condition and serving as uninvited friends. The Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra says: 'To help others arouse the bodhicitta, breaking the five precepts is permitted.' Thus we know that harming oneself to benefit others is the practice of a great being.
