As for benefiting oneself: it is the perfect gate that aids the path, the profound mirror of cultivation; as for benefiting others: it is the bright sun to those clinging to the real, the good physician for the two extreme views. As for the sudden practitioner: not departing from the gate of nature-origination, one can accomplish the practices of the dharmadhātu; as for gradual progression: avoiding the abandonment of the teachings of expedient means, one ultimately returns to the definitive vehicle. If one believes this, one complies with the Buddha's words; if one slanders this, one disparages the Buddha's intent. Belief and slander meet their reciprocal recompenses; cause and effect are distinct. Having briefly set forth a single dust speck from the ocean of teachings, I universally bestow it upon the sentient beings of the dharmadhātu; wishing to propagate the correct path, so as to repay the Buddha's benevolence.
