> From Dangtu (which is Taiping Prefecture), Gongfu crossed the river to visit the Venerable Baiyun Duan at Haihui. Baiyun asked the gentleman, “Is the ox tamed?” The gentleman said, “It is tamed.” Baiyun shouted at him, and the gentleman stood with folded hands. Baiyun said, “Tamed indeed, tamed indeed! Nanquan and Dawei were no different from this.” He then presented him with a verse: / “The ox comes into the mountains, / Water is plenty and grass is plenty. / The ox goes out of the mountains, / Goring to the east, goring to the west.” / He also said, “The great person above transforms three thousand; one can know propriety!” (Account of Conduct)
