> O mind! O mind! / Originally natural by itself. / Preeminent and independent, / tranquil, silent, solitary, and steadfast. / The most wondrous of the wondrous, / the most profound of the profound. / Without coming, without going, / without changing, without shifting. / Neither deluded nor awakened, / transcending both sage and worthy. / Unreachable by thought, / it is only forced into words. / Through its essence of luminous awareness, / various conditions are forthwith produced. / The mirror contains the myriad forms; / the ocean receives the hundred rivers. / Contract it, and its spirit withdraws into a square inch; / expand it, and its light fills the great chiliocosm. / Its transformations are free; / its functioning is boundless. / It is the ordinary being and the Buddha; / it is the real and the expedient. / If one is deluded about it, vast and boundless, there is no return; / if one awakens to it, clear and distinct, it is transmitted. / O mind, you are numinous! / O mind, you are numinous! / I speak to you: do not forget; / I instruct you: you must listen! / You are endowed with the myriad dharmas— / originally complete in yourself; / the myriad dharmas are endowed with you— / their essence is empty and even. / Objects are not real objects; / names are provisional names. / Formerly you were not awakened, / and vainly endured wandering in hardship. / Now that you are self-aware, / you can preserve firmness and chastity. / Meeting circumstances, do not stagnate; / as soon as a thought arises, become alert. / Unstained by the six dusts, / the three poisons are thereby cleared. / Do not stir it again to make it turbid / and lose your original brightness; / you ought to settle it yourself to make it pure, / and return to the primordial essence.
