> The establishment of the wooden account board: In ancient times, whenever standard formats were established, they had to be written on boards to show that they could not be altered. Therefore, monastic groves have wooden account boards for deceased monks. Whenever a monk dies, his robes and articles are appraised and auctioned before the assembly to penalize greed and accumulation. The money obtained from appraisal and auction must follow the wooden account board: beyond disbursements for operational use, thirty percent of the money is deducted to revert to the permanent property of the monastery (30 guan is deducted per 100 guan; if less than 100 guan, no deduction is made). The remainder is distributed equally among the monks. If the sutra fund is 100 wen, then the Buddhist ritual fee is 1 guan, and the abbot's quarters receives double. Taking 1,000 guan as the baseline standard, it is itemized as above. Approximating its established model, if there is more, adjust and increase it; if there is less, reduce and decrease it. When the time comes, also gauge the assembly and deliberate according to suitability. (If retired officers possess land, grain, quarters, beds, tables, and benches, these must entirely revert to the permanent property of the monastery. Furthermore, gauging whether the clothing auction funds are few or many, arrange daily distributions of donations for sutra chanting, sutra reading, additional offerings of tea and soup, Buddhist rituals for turning the casket and the bones, and so forth.)
