His seat is at the rear bench, assisting and extolling the ancestral style. His deportment is solemn and upright, a model for the community. Because the assembly is large, they are divided into front and rear. During the two meals of gruel and rice when going to the hall, as well as during seated meditation, he enters and exits through the rear door. If the front hall is vacant, the abbot, on another day, ascends the hall and announces to the community the request for him to move to the front bench, insert his name placard, and call the meals. During seated meditation and seated instruction, he enters the hall at only the third strike of the clapper in front of the communal dormitory, without needing to strike the clapper in front of the head seat dormitory. All other duties are identical to those of the front hall.
