> Dharma Master Shousu initially received the contemplation of the mind from Master Sui. Having realized the profound principle, he entered the capital and dwelt at Daxingshan Temple; his feet did not cross the threshold, and he perpetually recited the Lotus \[Sūtra\], reaching more than 37,000 recitations. At night, tigers and wolves attended his seat to listen to the sūtra; at mealtime, crows and magpies came to his palms to take grains. The śramaṇa Youxuan presented him with a poem: "Thirty thousand Lotus Sūtras in thirty springs, / For half a life not treading upon the dust of the cloister gate." At that time, it was considered a veritable record.
