Early on he became a foremost disciple of Mingzhi, frequently occupying the head seat; his religious practice and literary compositions were admired and respected by all. When Ŭich'ŏn of Goryeo arrived, he first went to Nanhu, where he took Mingzhi as his master and befriended Huizhao.
