> Tanyi resided at Jingzhu in Qiantang, practicing medicine as his profession. In his later years, he paid homage to the Lotus Sūtra and cultivated the Buddha-Recollection Samādhi. He used his lifelong savings to make offerings to the Buddha, feast the monks, create statues, and set up baths, continuing thus for twenty years. Later, slightly ill, he took no medicine, and invited seven monks, including practitioner Li, to recollect the Buddha to assist his rebirth. The next day, he saw a lotus flower as large as a house. Another day, an Indian monk came to his bed to greet him. At midnight, the assembly heard his voice recollecting the Buddha grow faint, and he serenely passed away forever.
