> Sicong resided at Fa'an in Qiantang. Daily he recited two copies of the Lotus Sūtra, and in his remaining time recollected the Buddha, never discussing worldly affairs. Suddenly he said to his disciples: "Last night I saw the Buddha and bodhisattvas come together to welcome and guide me." A disciple said: "I fear this might be a demonic realm; you must not simply follow it." Cong said: "When I die, there will be a lotus flower on my chest as proof." Two nights later, he ordered the chime to be struck and the Buddha's name recollected, saying joyfully: "The Buddha has come!" Thereupon he quietly passed away. When they looked at his chest, across an area of about a palm's span, there was a pattern, red and moist like an open lotus flower.
