He recited the Diamond Sūtra and bowed to the Buddha of the Western Direction. He once spiritually journeyed to the Pure Land and personally beheld the Buddha's countenance. He secretly gathered firewood into a niche in a mountain cave, entered within, chanted the Buddha's name, set fire to it, and incinerated himself. Over the course of twenty-seven years, he wrote entirely in blood. He constantly chanted the Buddha's name, longing to be born in the Land of Peace and Nurture (Sukhāvatī).
