> Wang Gu was a native of Yizhen. He served as Vice Minister of Rites and was a companion in Chan with Huitang and Yangqi. He once composed the Zhizhi jingtu jueyi ji (Collection of Resolving Doubts by Directly Pointing to the Pure Land), for which Yang Jie wrote a preface. He also enlarged and supplemented the Wangsheng jingtu zhuan (Biographies of Rebirth in the Pure Land); both works circulated throughout the world. In daily life, his aspiration was set on rebirth in the Western Pure Land. Approaching the end, he suffered no pain; suddenly the entire room was filled with brilliant light, and he passed away sitting upright. Someone dreamt of Wang Gu riding a lotus flower, departing to the west.
