> Li Yantong lived in Kuaiji and was an ironworker. Because of a Kaiyuan mindfulness assembly, he went to participate in it. He suddenly realized the world is impermanent and dedicated his mind to pure karma. One morning he fell ill and abruptly said, 'I have traveled to the Pure Land and seen two gates locked very firmly. While I hesitated, I saw the practitioner Li open the gates and lead me in, where I saw lotus ponds, towers, pavilions, and the assemblies of Buddhas and bodhisattvas.' He then invited the two practitioners Xijing and Daoguo to come before his couch to expound the Dharma and urge him on the path. The entire household recited the Buddha's name, and he passed away sitting and facing west.
