> The author remarks: The eastward flow of the Buddha's Dharma in fact began during the reign of King Mu. The making of images and building of monasteries all adhered to the old models of previous Buddhas. It is truly believable that past Buddhas had all extended their conversion to this land. When Śrībandhu and others brought sūtras to Qin, the First Emperor rejected and expelled them beyond the borders; this was simply because the time had not arrived and the potential faculties were not yet ripe. When Emperor Ming of Han responded to the dream, the Three Jewels arose simultaneously, and sovereign, ministers, and commoners all harmoniously took refuge. This is the auspicious fulfillment of what Suyu spoke of as the sound of teachings reaching here after a thousand years.
