> Wang Yuan was recommended as Filial and Incorrupt and served as a Court Gentleman. He abandoned his post and entered the mountains to cultivate the Way. The Emperor summoned him to the imperial capital. He wrote four hundred characters on the palace gate describing future events. The Emperor disliked this and had them scraped away, but the ink penetrated the planks and became even clearer. Yuan passed through Wu and stayed at the home of Cai Jing. He summoned Magu, and each presented their travelling provisions, breaking up dried qilin meat on golden plates and in jade cups. Magu said, 'I have already seen the Eastern Sea turn into mulberry fields three times. Just now on arriving at Penglai, the water was shallower than in former days.' Yuan said, 'The sages have all said that dust will once again rise from within the sea.' Jing saw that Magu's fingernails resembled those of a bird, and thought in his heart that when his back itched intensely, it would be wonderful to have these scratch his back. Yuan had someone seize Jing and whip him, saying, 'Magu is a divine person—how could you say her nails could scratch your back?' Jing said to his parents, 'Lord Wang constantly travels back and forth to Mount Kunlun; in Luofu and Kuocang he has palaces and takes charge of celestial bureau affairs. All matters of life and death across the Five Sacred Peaks on earth are reported to Lord Wang first.'
