> The \*Mātṛkā Treatise\* expounds twelve divisions of scriptures: only the Vaipulya division is the Bodhisattva Piṭaka; the eleven divisions are the Śrāvaka Piṭaka. Furthermore, the Buddha preached the path of escape from suffering for bodhisattvas and śrāvakas, making the Bodhisattva Piṭaka and Śrāvaka Piṭaka. The \*Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa\* says: 'Mahākāśyapa and Ānanda compiled the Tripiṭaka on Mount Gandhamādana as the Śrāvaka Piṭaka. Mañjuśrī and Ānanda compiled the Mahāyāna scriptures as the Bodhisattva Piṭaka.' The \*Nirvāṇa Sūtra\* says: 'The eleven divisions of scriptures are upheld by the two vehicles; the Vaipulya division is upheld by bodhisattvas.' Therefore, the scriptures and treatises are summarised as only these two kinds (\*Miaoxuan\*).
