> ○ Shuzhou memorialized and presented an auspicious stone as tribute, stating: Ke E, a native of Huaining County, encountered an extraordinary monk who told him to go to Mount Wansui to fetch a treasure. The monk pointed with his staff to an ancient pine, and E dug there and obtained a dark stone (pronounced you, bluish-black in color). Inscribed upon it was a record by Master Zhi of the Liang, saying: 'When I observe four or five dynasties hence, in the next bingzi year, one named Zhao will establish the Taiping reign; through twenty-one emperors, the altars of soil and grain will enjoy eternal peace.' The monk suddenly vanished. When the Emperor inspected the stone, he was reverently filled with unending sighs of praise. Suddenly, one day, Master Zhi descended into the imperial palace. The Emperor personally heard his words of instruction, and thereupon dispatched an envoy to Mount Zhong to offer a vegetarian feast. His proclamation read in outline: 'The Ultimate True has arrived; the treasured instructions were personally heard. Knowing the origin of the dynastic foundation, accumulated blessings will endure forever.' An imperial decree was then issued conferring the title Bodhisattva of the Forest of the Way and True Enlightenment; whether in public or private, none were allowed to speak his personal name, and he was consequently called Master Bao.
