> Recently, when I, Zhipan, passed through Yongdong, I found an old text in the book chest of the hermitage Qixin Yuanmiao. Reflecting that the mute girl was an ancient Buddha yet unknown to the world, I composed the \*Record of the Ancient Buddha Vipaśyin of Jiexiang\*. Afterwards, Yuanmiao gave it to the temple, and Wang Shiliang had it engraved on stone in the temple to mark the famous site. Note: in the canon, "Weiwei" is also called "Vipaśyin," here translated as "Superior Contemplation"; that is, contemplating all phenomena through the supreme and wondrous three contemplations, none of which is other than the principle of the three truths.
