He obtained an ancient mirror of Xuanyuan, which could see far and near with penetrating clarity. The Academician Cai Junmo heard of this and disliked him. One night, \[Cai\] dreamed he was pressed by a tiger, and someone saved him, saying to Junmo: "You are a man of noble rank, but your cranium is not straight." He then pressed it with his hand. When he awoke from the dream, his head was still aching. The next day, Shining came to call on him; he was the very person seen in the dream. Later, when \[Cai\] was dispatched to govern Minzhong, Shining went to see Junmo again and said to him: "You have long suffered from an eye ailment; why did you dream of the Bodhisattva Nāgārjuna at night?" Shining immediately drew from his sleeve a painted image, exactly like the one in the dream, whereupon both \[Cai's\] eyes saw clearly as before.
