> The author remarks: Emperor Xuanzong dreamed of the two characters 'Chu Jin' in the sky and accordingly inscribed the plaque for the Polyjeweled Stūpa; Emperor Suzong dreamed of a monk chanting the name of Prabhūtaratna Tathāgata; Emperor Daizong dreamed of touring a mountain temple; in our present dynasty, Emperor Renzong dreamed of a dragon coiled at the gate of Jingde Temple; Emperor Shenzong dreamed of a miraculous monk riding a horse across the sky. These were all brought about through the power of the Buddha, the power of the Dharma, and the natural transformative influence of the good roots of the masters' compassion. They cannot be compared with the midnight sorcery of the Divine Firmament! Fearing that foolish people might make wild citations to justify themselves, I could not but distinguish between them.
