> ○ When the Emperor was about to establish Consort Xie as Empress, he sent Eunuch Lan to the hermitage of He Rangyi without informing him of the question, only instructing him to bring back a sentence or two. The eunuch stayed for several days and reverently prayed to him, saying: 'The Emperor sent me; I wish you would grant a single word to report back.' Master He grew furious, shook his sleeves, and strode out. Lan followed him to the gate of the Tianqing Daoist Monastery. \[He\] turned his head and said: 'She will be the Mother of All under Heaven.' Lan returned and memorialized it that very day. The Consort thereupon ascended to the throne of the Central Palace.
