> In the second year of the Yongshou reign of the Later Han, Celestial Master Zhang Daoling was at Yuntai Mountain in Langzhou. Lord Lao dispatched an envoy to confer upon him the title of True Man of Orthodox Unity. Together with his wife, Lady Yong, and his disciples Wang Chang and Zhao Sheng, he ascended to heaven together. Ling originally resided at Tianmu Mountain in Yuhang; at seven years of age, he could recite the Daodejing. Later he entered Song Mountain and obtained the Nine Cauldrons Elixir Scripture. He then entered Shu and lived in reclusion at Heming Mountain. He refined the elixir for three years, and once the elixir was accomplished, he subdued the demonic spirits, seized the twenty-four administrative seats, and transformed them into blessed sanctuaries. Lord Lao conferred upon him the seal and ribbon of the Celestial Master, male and female twin swords, the Secret Register of the Covenant of Orthodox Unity with the Powers, and scriptures, talismans, and diagrams. Whoever received his Dao contributed five pecks of rice. Ling transmitted this to his son Heng; Heng transmitted it to his son Lu. Lu was appointed General of the Household Who Quells the Barbarians and Grand Protector of Hanning, and was enfeoffed as Marquis of Langzhong. Upon his death, his son Fu succeeded him. Under Emperor Xian, the Fourth-Generation Successor Celestial Master, Zhang Sheng, arrived at Poyang, refined an elixir, and underwent liberation by transformation. People named his dwelling Longhu Mountain.
