> Under Emperor Gaozong of the Tang, an edict ordered discussion on the Laozi Huahu Jing. Śramaṇa Faming said: "Since it has no dynasty of translation, how could it not be a forgery?" An edict was then issued ordering the apocryphal copies to be gathered in one place, prohibited, and discarded. Under Empress Wu, Śramaṇa Huicheng requested that the Huahu Jing be destroyed in accordance with the precedent of the previous court; an edict ordered eight academicians to deliberate. Under Emperor Zhongzong, an edict ordered the destruction of the Huahu Jing as well as wall paintings representing its transformation tableaux; violators were to be penalized.
