> (Forty-three; wuxu \[758 CE\]) In this year, the Silla monk Mulu manifested his passing at the Right Gate of the palace. With his palms joined, he stood suspended in midair, his feet hovering about a foot above the ground. His attendants reported this. The emperor was astonished and went in person to view him. A testamentary memorial was found requesting permission to return and be buried in his old valley. An imperial decree ordered that he be escorted to his former residence and a stūpa be erected. When they arrived at the branch monastery in Huaiyuan County, \[his body\] could not be lifted or moved. Thereupon they modeled his whole body with fragrant clay and left it at the branch monastery.
