### [19.54](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2036.19.54)

> (33. Ren-chen \[1112\]) In this year, Cai Jing was advanced to Grand Preceptor and Duke of Chu. Jing was fond of eating quails, raising them in cages in advance and cooking them. He once dreamed of thousands of quails pleading before him. One of them delivered a statement saying: / "Eating the grain in your granary, / Becoming the meat under your chopsticks. / A single bowl of broth takes hundreds of lives; / Life and death turn like a wheel. / Though we watch you live for a thousand springs, / Misfortune and fortune lean upon one another." / Jing was greatly frightened by this. (From the \*Yuxi shihua\*.)
