> Pingshan said: 'What the Buddhists call emptiness is not mere emptiness; what the Daoists call non-action is not mere non-action. Their principle is natural and spontaneous, leaving nothing to be adopted or discarded. Therefore Zhuangzi said, "It neither adds to nor detracts from its reality," and the Prajñā sutras say, "Neither increasing nor decreasing." When someone, through feelings of liking and disliking, gives rise to views of right and wrong, how could he be one who studies Buddhism or Daoism? Taking their lack of desire for gain is itself a desire for gain; taking their adherence to circumstance is itself intentional action, and is no longer spontaneity.'
