迂叟曰。或問。釋老有取乎。曰有。曰何取。曰釋取其空。老取其無為自然。捨是無取也。空取其無利欲心。無為自然取其因任耳。

> The Clumsy Elder (Sima Guang) said: 'Someone asked: "Is there anything to take from Buddhism and Daoism?" I answered: "Yes." "What should be taken?" I said: "From Buddhism, take emptiness. From Daoism, take non-action and spontaneity. Setting these aside, there is nothing to take." By emptiness, I mean taking their lack of desire for gain; by non-action and spontaneity, I mean taking their adherence to circumstance."'
